If you’re looking to have a grand time out on British Columbia’s waters, you’ll find it with Daybreak Fishing Charters’ halibut expeditions. As a deep sea fishing charter, we will take you on some of Prince Rupert’s most populated halibut fishing waters.
Halibut are large, scavenging flatfish that are typically located near the ocean floor, where they feed on herring and octopus. Heading out at the break of dawn, Daybreak Fishing Charters will take you out on the waters to search for halibut and rockfish. Although, we have also caught quite a few while out on the troll searching for other species. Once we reach our fishing spot, your guides will set anchor on “holes” where the halibut most commonly frequent. We will then “jig” off the bottom using heavy rods and reels.
While this tasty fish averages in at 20 to 40 pounds, halibut exceeding 100 pounds are also very common in this region. But these bigger halibut won’t give up easy, so you will also be in for the fight of your life! Halibut are available year round, with their local numbers peaking between May through September.
Some other fish that you’ll find in halibut-inhabited areas include ling cod, red snapper and rockfish.
