CHINOOK SALMON

Also known as “Springs” or “King Salmon”, the Chinook Salmon is the largest of the five species of Pacific Salmon. The Chinook is the most desired Salmon due to their size and ability to run and fight. Larger numbers of Chinook show up in local waters in early May and peak in June and July but can also be caught into September. Many Chinook Salmon also make the waters of Prince Rupert their yearly home and can be caught throughout the winter. Averaging 20 to 40 pounds in the summer months, large Chinook Salmon in the 70 and 80 pound range are caught every summer.

COHO SALMON

Also known as “Silvers”, Coho Salmon start to show up in Prince Rupert waters in June and increase in numbers later in the summer and well into September and October. Averaging 10 to 15 pounds early in the year, these aggressive and voracious fish quickly grow over the summer months. Late in summer, the “Northerns” show up and can average 14 to 20 pounds or heavier. Renowned for their jumping and head shaking, Coho Salmon show up in large numbers and will give any angler the non-stop excitement that he or she is looking for.
